2008 gti se 155 impeller and wear ring questions

My gti se 155 bounces off the rev limiter for 6 or more seconds when accelerating. I took off the jet pump. The bearings are fine. The wear ring doesn't seem worn really. Still has the cut lines in it. But there is a .050 thousandth gap between the impeller and wear ring. Will a wear ring fix my problem?

That will definitely cause cavitation. Replace it

Could someone have put the wrong wear ring in? Or maybe the wrong impeller?
Do 2008 gti se 155's have blue wear rings from factory?

This is what the impeller looks like. Is this damaged bad enough to not use?

Ever seen one with cavitation marks this bad?

I don't think the scuffing on the impeller is from the wear ring. possible from sucking up sand or other crap.

The OEM wear ring is white If I remember right. P/N 267000104. The blue one looks a $30 PMT brand one.

Get an OEM wear ring. They last longer and fit better.

I think you'll be ok using that impeller.

After just doing this on my RXT, that looks like a RIDICULOUS amount of clearance!!
Clearance spec for for my RXT was .014", so yea that's exactly why you're cavitating.

    Thanks for the replies!
Joshy, the back side of the impeller, in the middle of the blade, not on the edges, has been eroded away by what I believe to be cavitation. It is seriously pitted. I would love to run it if its 'ok' to run for now and buy a new prop by winter time this year.

twokexlv6coupe, I really think someone f'd up and put in the wrong wear ring. I took the jet pump off and literally pulled the wear ring out by hand in about 6 seconds. There seems to be almost no wear on the ring itself. It has a few scuff marks, but nothing that would wear away the inner diameter to cause this gap. It has this amount of gap all the way down the wear ring. I even flipped the ring over to see if the other side was tighter and its not.

I got a crazy good deal on this 2008 gti se 155 most likely because of this problem. The guy took it to a yamaha shop and they ripped him off big time for 1700 dollars in 'tune-up' charges and it still had this horrible gap between the impeller and wear ring when it left their shop.

you think I can use this impeller for a while?
I'll buy a new wear ring and see if it helps.

That's what I was referring to, the centers of the blades. That must have been some serious cavitation to cause that. If you want to play it safe, get the maximum performance, or do it because you're in there anyway swap the impeller too, but I dont think it will grenade or anything on you, if anything it could cause a vibration.
