    Android apps

I used to use a couple useful apps on my old iphones... recently switched to a Droid and was wondering what kind of gps speed apps are you all using? Any other useful apps that I may be missing out on? I have downloaded the "tides near me" app on me iphone and thankfully that one is also available on the droid...

    Any tips is greatly appreciated!!

I've used this gps speed app for several years and it does what it's supposed to and is accurate.

I just started using DigiHUD this season, and if you're wondering what the HUD stands for.... yes it'll mirror the phones screen so you point it at your car's windshield as a pseudo Heads-Up Display, like a C5 Corvette

Just for shits, I took a screenshot on a plane coming back from Idaho....

Speed tracker is a great app.. it will even show a map and track where you have gone.. if just messing around on a lake the map looks really cool.. if I remember ill post a pic later.
Also it shows speed to the tenth.

Google track its a cool one. It's no HUD but it does give you an average speed, moving time, and my favorite; a map of your travels that you can use Google earth on. Kinda cool. Here's my lake Elsinore ride. I forgot to turn it on until over half way through the day.

Beware of false accuracy. Just showing decimal points does not mean the results are actually that accurate.

The GPS software cannot be more accurate than the GPS hardware inside the device. The software simply asks the GPS hardware for the data and then processes and displays the information.

GPS tech at its core does not measure speed directly, it simply plots location points on the surface of the planet, then calculates the distance and time between those points. If the accuracy of the locations is poor then the results of the distance calculations will also be poor. If the distance is wrong then the calculated speed is also wrong.

Location accuracy is improved when the device has a high quality GPS chipset inside, when the device is able to receive strong GPS signals from the satellites, and when the GPS device can 'see' many satellites at the same time.

Most GPS chips have a very limited rate at which they can provide location data updates. This is a primary limitation in the accuracy of the displayed speed numbers. When you watch the GPS speed display while you are accelerating rapidly you will often see the speed numbers jump up in 'chunks'. The time between each speed chunk is caused by the GPS chip.
