    Sea Doo RXT-X aS 260 2012 vs 2014

Hi, Rob from Sweden here (Sorry if there is some wierd english)

I am currently in the market for the Sea Doo RXT-X aS 260. It's possible that I can get a really good deal on the 2012 model with only 25h. Is there any big differences between these models (2012 vs 2014) except the color? I've heard that Seadoo has been having issues with the reliability of their intercoolers on some models (2011-2013?) and improved the durability for 2014, is this true?

It is about 1 year warranty left on the ski.

    / Rob

No difference besides the 2014 has a intercooler pisser and it's red instead of dayglo yellow. Only had 20 hours on my 14 before I changed to Fizzle F1k cooler so I can't say much about reliability as mine never leaked ( I also ride fresh water only) haven't heard of any other folks with 2014s having any leaky coolers yet. It's probly best to just change it out with an OEM 08-10 cooler or go aftermarket (Riva, Fizzle) and forget about it.

    Thanks.

How do I know if it's leaking? And if it does, what will happen? I will ride in saltwater.

I haven't had it happen to me but I can imagine poor performance and if leaks bad enough hydro lock the motor or worse. Plenty threads out there about the IC issues. Use search function

    Sounds good.

I changed my mind from the RXT to GTX instead. The dealer gave me a good deal on a 2014 GTX Limited iS 260 model with trailer and a gps tracking system.
Is there anything special I should think about? This is my first ski !

Congrats with your new ski !!

As you're gonna ride salt water.....

Be sure flush and clean your ski thoroughly after every ride. Don't let it stay over for 1 or more nights.

Don't flush it longer than 2 minutes on the hose as you will damage your driveshaft seal when motor is running.

Buy a box of XPS spray and spray motor, electronics etc. generously after cleaning with fresh water.

Have fun with your new ski !!

    Thanks man! I'm really excited.

I will look more into the manual. Is it safe to clean the motor and inside the hull with some fresh water from the hose or should I just use a sponge?

    / Rob

EDIT: Just found this video . I guess it's the same things I should do to my ski?

No problem to rinse inside the ski.

Just wait till the engine has been cooled down a little.

Salt water / air will come everywhere !!
