    reed replacement question

FNG question.(actually did do some searches)
I have a 96 slx 780 that is not running on the mag cylinder. It is blowing fuel air mixture out the carb. I believe I need to check the reeds. My question is how difficult is it to do this with the engine in the ski? Would it be easier to remove the engine?
    Thanks, Chuck

No need to remove the engine. Disconnect the throttle and choke cables, then unbolt the carbs with a 12 mm wrench. Need to stand on the Port (exhaust) side of the ski and reach over the carbs to get them undone. Once removed, unbolt the intake manifold and pull the reeds to have a look......

    Thanks bluefish.
I got it apart and one of the center pedals is totally gone, I can't see any sign of it. Do I need to pull the cylinder and try to find it or just let it go? The engine has already run like this for probably 20 minutes.
    Thanks, Chuck

My guess is that it may be jammed up inside a transfer port for the cylinder, or it has gone through the engine and out exhaust.

Are there any reeds from other manufactures that I may be able to find locally that will work or be modified to work? We're headed to the lake this weekend and would like to get this thing running.
    Thanks, Chuck

The Boyesen aftermarket reeds are still manufactured and available, just a matter of luck to find a set in stock somewhere.

    Where are you located??

I had good luck with the Boyesen dual stage reeds. I picked up 100 rpm on my old sl750.

    Availability: In stock.
$112.95 I think this is an entire set for all three cylinders, you would have to call to be sure.
