Weird Gauge Problem
I fired up my ski for the first time this year and discovered that my gauges don't work at all. Since I had my fuel pickup out to install the weighted clunks, I unplugged it and, bingo, the gauge cluster came on and the low fuel buzzer sounded. I checked the fuel level sender per the manual and it swings from 6 to 780 ohms, so it seems to be OK. When attached to the cluster, the gauges will come on as long as the magnet float is at the bottom. If it's over the sensor board at all, the gauges go off. Has anyone seem this before? Is the gauge cluster bad?

I picked up a potentiometer at Radio Shack today. That allowed me to duplicate the resistance of the fuel sender as the float travels. Again, no gauges until high resistance. Looks like a bad gauge cluster. I guess I'm cluster f*cked.

I think WFO or jeffsntx might have one or two laying around.

Well, I finally figured it out today. It's my Advent CDI. The gauges work fine with my stock CDI installed. It never occurred to me that the CDI could be at fault here. I sent my Avent CDI in over the off-season for some custom curves. It worked OK when I pulled it out. So, I hope they'll fix it for free. But, I have my doubts.

Talked to Greg at Advent and he knew the problem right away. It seems they had a bug in their programming software and have since fixed it.
