1996 Polaris SLX Hitting Only 5850 RPM At WOT

1996 SLX only hitting 5,850 RPM at WOT. Was hitting 6,400RPM. These RPM's are in the water, on trailer it hits 6,700 RPM's. This just happened out of no where, only thing I know that happened was it almost capsized while riding it in the water last weekend. Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

    Thanks guys for everything.

    Thanks,

    Devin

    Check cylinder compression.

Check the basics. Spark plug tips clean, not fouled? Spark plugs new this year?

    Throttle cable slack correct?

    K4,

Will check all those things asap tomorrow afternoon, checked spark plugs a few weeks back and all was good then and all were new this year. When I go WOT the RPM's climb very slowly to about 3500 then it sits there about a second and takes of, throttle response when wanting to go WOT seems sluggish and slow coupled with the RPM issue.

Ignition or carburetor, or a bit of trouble with both, seems likely.

The almost capsize thing may simply be coincidental. The machine was not actually rolled over, correct? Was there a lot of water inside the hull?

If dirt in the fuel tank was disturbed then perhaps a fuel filter is now partially plugged. There is a main fuel filter near the fuel tank and there are also tiny filters inside each carburetor.
