    2005 rxp timing chain

4 hours of smooth riding into the break in of the new rebuilt motor my timing chain breaks, I am confused as to why? my friend was riding the bike when this happen is it possible he was riding it to hard pass the break in speed. I removed engine and found 4 bent valves and a broken link on the chain with with no other visible damage that could cause chain to snap, supercharger is new with upgraded washers and checked good, all parts were WSM new parts.

There should be no reason for a timing chain to snap if it was all fitted and timed up correctly, especially if it was "brand new" take it up with WSM and see if you can get anything out of them!

OEM parts should have been used, They are proven to hold up. Specially on critical parts like the timing chain, & supercharger parts...

I'm rebuilding my engine right now and as it has 300 hours on it and is from 03, i thought it was best to replace the timing chain.
So I ordered a new one from WSM. The sticker "Made in Taiwan" in the box gave some thoughts.

However, the WSM timing chain looks and feels good. One difference is that the "tube" in the chain is split, compared to the one in the OEM that is solid.
I have searched all over the Internet for any "warnings" to use the WSM chain and the only info I found is this thread. But it looks like these chains are sold everywhere so probably they are used in many engines.

So I'm a little confused. Should i put in my new WSM chain or my old OEM with 300 hours which is in great condition.

Wilo007, can you post a picture of your broken chain so we can see how it broke. Was it stretched a part or did it loose a pin?

It looks like a link has broken off next to the pin, I will post a pic.

    Personally, I wouln't risk a 2,500 engine over a $90 OEM part.

The materials are probably not the same grade of steel, in Taiwan
