    gopro tether idea

not really trying to reinvent the wheel here just improve on what i have. ive got about 15ft of 550 para cord to experiment with.

there are 2 things about my current tether i dont like.
    1) the loop is to small and a pain in the ass sometimes to get over a pivot arm
    2) the filament that goes around the bar on the back door gets crimped and tangled

so the loop part easy.. make it bigger. the part that goes around the back door bar i want to use a clip of some form. stainless steel of course. thinking along the lines of something like this..

i would cut the swivel part off because i see no need for it but what i am not sure is how small i can get these types of clips. any fishermen out there who use these that can tell me diameter of the smallest one?

i am going to try and go make it to academy and pick some up. worst case im out a few bucks.

If you look just above the strainers and Nano sticker you can see how I attach the the clip to the ski. I have another affixed up front also. They are Ty-Wrap mounts. Bought from Lowes, in the electrical dept.

I haven't done a tether yet, I have used the adhesive mounts and I have the floaty attached to the camera, however, if I were to use a tether I would have chosen a fishing leader attached to the camera case and to a hard point on the ski. Looks like you guys have it nailed.

Oh forgot. Ditch the white double stick foam adhesive. Clean off and apply good ol 3M gray double stick.

basically the same thing i want to do. i like the way the clips i posted hook together better but that's just personal taste.

i know its overkill what im thinking and let me see if i can describe it in full.
24 inch section of para cord (or any length), loop at each end secured by stainless steel crimp sleeves. one end will have a velcro zip tie and the other will have a 3 to 4 inch stainless steel lead with some form of clip. heat shrink tubing over each crimp sleeve as well.

I always assume that after the camera comes loose that it will get yanked around a bunch and bounce all over before I can slow down and recover it.

I would worry about a simple curved clip as pictured. Seems easy to be flexed and pulled open when firmly yanked.

Something with a positive latching closure might be better at resisting accidental clip release.

the main point of that clip or filament around the backdoor bar is just a secondary tether in case a pivot point breaks and the tether around it is rendered useless.

so instead of going with a clip it wold be much easier to add a 3 to 4 inch section that will jsut go around the thumbscrew directly under the camera. the odds of that particular spot going tits up is very unlikely. so either way you are covered.
