Good deal? 96 XP and 96 GSX in DC area

I am interested in both of these models. The owner does not have time to put them in the water for a test drive. I offered $300 apiece since I would only be able to run them on the trailer. The XP has some "bogging down" issues. How much would you say these would be worth? I know it is a gamble.

I may be interested in riding them for the rest of this season and then doing winter projects on both with GroupK rebuilds.

At the minimum you'll need the carb and fuel line treatment(tempo lines, green goo in carbs)

If it goes bad you can always part them out.

I don't see you snagging them for $600 however..the trailer alone is worth that..but doesn't hurt to try

Nah not going to happen on 600 but not hurt try. I think more likely he will let it go for 1500 or so. If u try to fix up and flip it don't waste your time those can't even sell that well.

they look to be in average shape and both "run" with a decent trailer for being as old as they are. at the very least, if that was me, I would take no less than $1900 for the package, and that would be if I was desperate. I think $21-2300 is a fair offer. the rest is up to you to make it your own. a little TLC and basic maintenance goes a long way.
I bought my 96XP 5 years ago and it was looking rough, busted hood, needed grips, engine bay degreased, carbs cleaned, pump bearings etc...you would have thought that it was the biggest POS and had less than 20 hours to live. its still alive today with 260 hours and 155psi for compression and with a little work it looks great for its age.

He doesn't have time for a water test, so I offered him $300 apiece w/o the trailer figuring they would require engine rebuilding. He said no.
