Looks like we're keeping a Polaris!

Tore down 2 skis to build this clean little '92 and it runs great so far. Couldn't seem to sell it even for $800 with the trailer. My son has been riding my Seadoo HX this summer and hates it. Got a pretty nice '01 Seadoo GTi that needed a crank and so he claimed it...........until he rode it for a couple hours this Saturday. BORING! So I told him to give the little Polaris a try maybe he'd like it. Even has working power trim. So after a few hours riding on Sunday he is now discussing what color it needs to be painted and decided it's a lot of fun. I guess it's a good thing it didn't sell, AND I still have lots of spare parts from the other one to boot!

Will an R&D intake grate from a '96 Hurricane fit on this SL650?

    Cool,
Great way to teach basic knuckle busting mechanic skills to a young one!

The 1992 hulls are a bit different from later years but I do not recall whether the intake grate area accepts aftermarket grates.

Check that the grate front mount angle meets the hull angle properly.

That ski is really clean! I wouldn't paint it, there are not many of those around anymore. If one of the other skis you used for parts is newer than a 92, try one of those intake grates, if it fits, then the aftermarket one should.

Man, the scoop/inlet is the same from 92 - 01. I gotta imagine, unless the hull shape changed, that the grates would interchange...

Finally checked it out this weekend. The R&D fits just fine but I'm wondering if the scoop will load the 650 too much? I cut the center 2 bars out of the stocker and will try that. Also installed a pitot and speedometer from a Tigershark.

Here is the pitot from the Tigershark mounted up and center bars cut out of the stock intake.

    Speedo mounted up

And the Tigershark finger throttle, looks very stockish and at home.
