Question Spark speed calculation - how ?

I know the IBR models have the GPS module activated to calculate the speed but according to the SeaDoo Spark spec :

    11) GPS Active Indicator (Models
    with iBR)

A GPS incorporated in the multifunction
gauge provides the speed in the
    multifunction display.

    Models with iBR

The speed indication is based on a GPS
    (Global Positioning System) incorporated
    within the multifunction gauge.
If for some reason the GPS signal is
lost, a default mode is used whereby,
the speed is calculated using information
    received from other systems
    to provide an estimated watercraft
    speed.

So my question is ..... what are these "other systems" that provide information to calculate the speed as per the Non-IBR models? I'm guessing revs is one of them but what are the others - any ideas ??

Spark speed calculation - how ?

Hm. Rev, then OTAS knows if you steering or riding straight forward.
If you ride in rough water the engine will probably hit the rev-limiter (or bump up in RPMs) due to air getting in the pump = lower speed.

Yes but if you open the throttle wide whilst going straight you'll get to max revs long before max speed so how does it know ???

Good to know it's pretty close - do you know what else is used or is it just the Revs?

Also I wonder if the Vtech tune activates the GPS module as it does for the Sport mode on the 60bhp version ?

GPS module is probably built into the ibr system, I don't believe the gps unit is on the non-ibr skis

Hadn't thought of that - sounds logical otherwise it'd be active on all the range, thanks ^^
