2005 GTX codes 1611 and 0608, dies on accel

Hello all, I've looked through this forum and can't find a similar thread to what I'm trying to figure out with my 'new to me' ski. I just bought a 2005 GTX supercharged and it runs like crap with codes coming up. I couldn't test it when buying it, but took it out on the water when I got home and had issues. Two codes come up, 1611 and 0608. It will start up and idle, but the second slightly touch the accelerator, it dies.

What I noticed when trying to find the issue:
    - Even when I took the lanyard off the DESS post, it turned off for a couple of seconds, but then the display turned back on and beeped 4 times, as if ready to start, but I can;t start it.
    - With the lanyard off, the TOPS solenoid cycles every couple of seconds (10-15 seconds)
    - With lanyard off, the fuel pump can be heard (like a short 1/2 second prine) every 15-20 seconds.

I looked at different connections and wiring does not look corroded.

I'm looking to accomplish two things: Has anybody had this issue, and is the TOPS solenoid supposed to cycle every so often with the lanyard off?

    Thanks in advance.

So i've done some diag and this is what I've found:

    TPS testing:
    - Wiring from TPS to ECM is good. .5 ohms across each of the three wires with no cross short between the three wires.
    - Voltage at TPS with lanyard inserted is all within spec (per shop manual)
    - TPS Spec: I found that a resistance test between pin A-24 and pin A-39, at idle, i'm getting 2805 ohms, when spec is 2500 ohms, and at WOT, reading shows 1326 ohms, when spec should be up to 1100 ohms max.
--- So this would mean the TPS needs to be replaced or reprogrammed.

    MAP sensor testing:
    - Wiring is good between MAP and ECU with no cross shorts.
    - Voltage readings at MAP sensor are at spec (per shop manual)
    - Per shop manual, cannot test MAP sensor

ALSO, what I noticed is that when I connect everything, the ski beeps (4 quick beeps) 2-3 second pause, BUT THE LANYARD IS NOT CONNECTED (I cannot start the ski with the lanyard off, but the dash lights up)."MAINT" and "CHCK ENGN" displays and the red light on the right side of the IC flashes. The code I pulled was p1611.

IN ADDITION, with the lanyard off, the TOPS solenoid at the front of the engine cycles on/off every 15 (or so) seconds.

I tested the DESS post and it ohms out with no short in the wiring....

IS THIS A SIGN OF A BAD ECU ??????

Please help, I'm a newbie when it comes to jetskis, but i've been an auto tech for the past 9 years.

UPDATE: Concerning the ski powering on without lanyard...

I disconnected the wiring from the DESS port along with the wiring from the START/STOP switch, and the dash still displays MAINT and CHCK ENGN (without the beeps) and this is without the lanyard.

ALSO, I noticed the fuel pump primes for about 1/2 a second every 25-30 seconds....

UPDATE: I found 2 pins broken on the MPEM. The corresponding wires go to a rev limiter(?) switch that is mounted above the TOPS sensor. Anybody know what this is?

I replaced the mpem, but this did not fix the issue. Still getting a code p1611 and cluster turns on and beeps without the lanyard.

    Any Help, Please!!!!

skiidoochris - I disconnected the two connectors that lead to the DESS port and the start/stop switch and the instrument cluster still comes on (but no beeps when DESS disconnected). I'm at a loss now

My 05 rxt was doing same thing cycling fuel pump. Turned out to be corroded ECU terminals and bad ECU.
