weird SC slip problem
2Rude SC 101 hrs total, riva washers with less than 50hrs (going to Jerry for rebuild this week), I set the slip at 16 ft lbs last night, rode today for no more that 30 mins and notice a weird sound coming from the charger. towed it back to the beach to find that I could spin the wheel with one finger. spent the rest of the day drinking beer.
got home and pulled the charger expecting to find a missing washer. instead I found everything intact (thankfully) but the gear free spins like there's zero pressure on it. nut still loctited on solid, and the spring washers where compressed (I watched them uncompress as I undid the nut). pull it apart, gear is near the end of its life but ok and so is everything else. nothing to explain why.
put it back together same as it came out, slip was 15 ft lbs, and no free spinning now.
Anybody seen something like this?

So I take it this was a fluke and that no one has seen this before?

are the 4 oil slits still visible on the sides of the Gear?
It may be worn too thin for the washers to keep proper tension on the clutches.
Were the spring washers holes oval shaped?

I would check your gear tolerance..Also what brand Spring washers??OEM???If the slip had fell off it shouldnt make any noices to my knowlage BUT a noticable lose of power..IF your getting noises out of your Scer you might not want to run it till a complete inspection as you might have another issue going on here like a bearing getting ready to let go....

the gear is pretty worn. the grooves are still there but getting real shallow on one side. It's going for a rebuild before it gets run again. I just want to know what happened to determine if I need to look in the motor for debris.
I was using mcmasters springs but I change them out with never used OEM springs to get the slip right.
Don't know how to explain the noise. it was subtle at first and got gradually got louder. It was like a intermittent rattle that became more constant over about 10 secs till I killed it. at first I thought it was the pump until I realized it was mixed in with uneven SC whine.

Did the toothed washer that mates into the splines on the charger strip? Sounds like it

Check your flywheel for any broken or missing teeth...you may have stripped some teeth as i have heard, and seen this in the past.....
