    Is the EGTS Sensor needed?

Ok, so this might be a simple question but I see guys all the time running a more straight pipe direct flow exhaust system on there skis. Aftermarket or home made. It seems as though the stock water box (spark specifically) has and EGTS sensor in the muffler itself that must help with the EFI or something similar. What are guys doing with that sensor if changing exhaust systems? For instance another exhaust and muffler that does not have a place for an EGTS sensor on it. Or are they punching a hole somewhere in the exhaust hose or muffler and threading it in?
