    Thumbs up Help needed

Hi folks. I'm new to jet skis but not new to boating... have a 35 foot sea ray. Also fairly mechanically inclined and have built a few race cars in the past.

I purchased a nice 2002 Kawasaki 900 STX and got it back up and running. Previously owner wasn't sure what happened and couldn't get it running. Anyway, when in the water, the ski will rev up but not really moving so good. Through my searching (thank you google! LOL) it attributes that type of behavior with the jet pump and/or impeller.

How difficult is it to replace the jet pump? Are there any instructions or a youtube video you could point me to?

Thanks in advance for the help!

    -Tim

Ok I'll look but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I looked for cavitation, impeller, ..... jet pump. what specifically should I be looking for?

Look for debris stuck up in the intake grate from the bottom, check that the motor mounts are good and the motor is in the right spot, check the coupler inside the ski behind the motor under the shield. Last, pull the pump and see if the driveshaft splines are stripped out

I'll check all of what you suggested thanks. By what I'm describing does it sound like bad jet pump? Oh and u get some vibration too.

It moves but it's like a clutch slipping

Pump is cavitating. Could be a bad impeller. I would deff pull that pump off and check the bearings, impeller, and wearing.

Its pretty simple just grab a wrench and go at it. If it was a salt water ski you mighy have to pull the ride plate.

Worse comes to worse pull it apart and take pictures. Most likely the pump is warn. Im very familiar with that pump! Pull it apart!

The fact that it moves rules out the motor mounts, coupler and the drive shaft splines.

Ok will get it out is sitting in my floating dock. The impeller was changed by previous owner to Solas I believe.
