    Msx 150 hull repair

So I finally figured out why my ski fills with water somewhat randomly. I have a crack along the bottom side of the right side strake on the bow. On flat water or just floating it doesn't take on water. When it hits rough water the hull flexes and opens up the crack letting water in.

I have done epoxy repairs on a Yamaha in the past and plan to repair this with epoxy. I want to do the repair from the inside. I can't locate the crack on the inside. I think it is below the liner or partition or whatever you call the area around the gas tank. Guess I will have to cut through that area for access then repair it as well. Can anyone provide info on how this area is constructed. Is there any foam in this cavity?

grind a deep wide groove and fill with west systems with filler or glass shreds. The idea is to get more surface area for the epoxy to grab onto. then you have to gel coat or paint

Just fix it from the outside. It will work just fine. The hull has an inner liner and its probably not a great idea to mess with cutting it away.

I have done hull repairs from the outside and the amount of sanding and fairing required makes it a real pain. i decided to go at it from inside so I cut an access hole in the hull liner pulled the foam underneath out in one chunk and ground out the crack and prepped the surrounding area. i have 1708 biax fiberglass and epoxy on order should have it later this week.

How thick is the foam in that area?

    Inner liner material thickness?

Was there moisture in between the layers?

I would estimate the liner is between 3/16 and 1/4" I will measure it tonight. Will try to figure out the hull thickness as well. There was some moisture in the cavity but only down low. There must be a path for the water to get out from between the hull and liner or my hull wouldn't have filled with water. The foam between the layers is the type of foam that coffee cups are made off, white and composed of pebble like pieces of foam. The foam was not bonded to the hull or the liner. I don't think this type of foam is sprayed in I think it was molded and placed in the hull prior to the liner being bonded in. The foam does not go up the side so it ends where my outside cut was towards the center it was about 4".
