    GP1200R top speed estimates

So I'm opening this thread up just for kicks. I purchased a GP1200R in the spring & it already had all the MODs listed in my sig. I removed the FF exhaust in favor of the stock sound suppression box, and swapped out the R&D rideplate for Jim's R&D rideplate with FF MOD. Still has stock 1200 waterbox. Previous top speed was 65.9. Any guesses on what my new top speed will be/ how much it will pu? Hopefully will test it in the next couple weeks.
    Let the guesses roll...

Well if you already were getting 65.9 the adding of the JIM ride plate ... I would be surprised to see a lot of improvement .... maybe 2+ increase @ best. Please let us know.

Correct. 65.9 was with R&D rideplate & FF exhaust. Swapped the R&D for Jim's R&D plate & swapped the FF for the stock exhaust box.

Will let you know once I test it.

FYI - Replacing the stock exhaust with a free flow tube is done to support a higher compression head (reduces detonation risk) and typically reduces rpms a little (around 50.)

Thanks Jay. Not really sure what to expect by swapping the FF for stock exhaust. Even with the head shaved the compression is still marginal at 135# (all 3-cyl) since it's a 1200, and with a 1200 water box (flows better than 1300) I figure I shouldn't have any fear of detonation (also run 93 octane). In fact I could possibly pick-up just a hair if I ran 89 octane & still be OK safety wise. But 93 is just peace of mind. I'm not expecting to PU a lot from the exhaust, but I have heard of some losing 1-3 mph by adding a FF exhaust. Maybe I'll gain 0.5-1.5mph, I would suspect.

I got 64.9 this morning. Only mods are, carbs jetted and balanced, gutted air box. Sealed pump shoe and sealed stock grate.D plate and chip solas concord 14/20 pitched to 13/19 from wfo. The concord got me up from 61.5 to 64.9 instantly. Im going to mess with ride plate and intake grate soon. I really think you going back to stock exhaust is going to help alot.

You have the same mods as me minus a grate. If you get a grate you will be running very close to what I am. I have a skat track which is supposed to be slower on the top end apparently. So I'm interested to see what you would run with just a grate added and that solas concord from Rich.

And to the OP I will go with 67.7mph, but it will all be in how you get the tune.
