    Insurance needed to drive off?

Hey guys I am considering buying a new PWC and I am just wondering if special insurance is needed to drive off of the lot or if general auto will cover it for a set time.

I know I can call around in the morning and talk to programs, just looking for users input.

I suppose you would have to check with your local laws but I think insurance is only mandatory if you are financing. You will need it before you can drive off the lot then.

Are you asking about insurance for the ski on the trailer, just driving down the road?

Or insurance for using the watercraft on the water?

    Different things.

Yamaha does not require insurance. My credit union does. Depends who you finance with. Dealer will let you know but start getting quotes.

Thank you all, I started a quote with progressive (Very easy online). They have rates as low as 100$ year and you can adjust all of the features. Save quote and enter remaining info at dealer. With some coverage I end up around $250 a year.

I bought mine almost 2 months ago in Tampa, Florida and no insurance whatsoever was required. They didn't even ask if I wanted it. I did end up getting some from Progressive just to be safe.

Check with your insuranc if it is indeed covered while trailering, some have limits on value. Most likely nothing is required. I'd still take out insurance. You are looking at a complete loss if you overlook something silly like a drainplug. At $250-300/year it's simply not worth the risk. Assume the worst and make sure you are covered, for some reason uninsured items attract damage like nothing else .....
