    What went wrong?

First test ride on the 2000 slh 700. New ignition system, timing set 18 at 3000, all new fuel lines. I putted around the marina for a few minutes to make sure it was going to run. Stopped lifted the seat i could touch the heads for a few. thought all was good. Took it on a spin for one minute then it died. Started up again with full choke ran another 20 seconds. did that 3 times. got it back on trailer no compression on mag cylinder. Corner of piston broke.

I dont think it was a lean condition. Looks broke not burned. but i could be wrong.

    Over heat maybe?

I started it mayber 10 times with no water setting timing. but never for more than 10 seconds. Did i damage it then?

The oil pump is not hooked up. Still need to get line and clean tank but im pre mixing 40.1

    Any thoughts

If thats the ring end gap Im seeing in the pic, your piston is in backwards.

I think your right. Im looking at the pics and I think the arrow is right above the piston size stamp. And its pointing to intake

Isnt it suppose to point towards exhaust?

I guess some one was in it already and installed them wrong.

    Yes. Arrow points to exhaust.

probably an sbt motor.that piston has seen some run time, can't imagine getting a bunch of run time like that and not hanging the piston ring on the exhaust port which looks like what happen.somebody probaly took the jug off and put new rings on a used piston and didn't index the rings right or thats a piston ,ring, jug combo off another ski and they got the piston on backwards and still even then didn't get the rings indexed right

Messed with the ski this morning. Ring gap deffinteltly pointing toward exhaust. Well at least it's not something I did wrong. 350 for new pistons and boring. I'm determined now to ride this damn thing sometime this year. Even if it's 30 degrees outside. Lol. Thanks for the help
