Looking at buying a ski, some advice?

Hi GH, looking at getting back on the water again with something less thirsty and better suited to the type of riding I do around here (Brisbane, Australia) than the FZS.

I'm looking at the GTI 155 SE models and checked out a clean 2012 with 70hrs on it today, runs smooth and quietly on the hose with no noises from the pump bearings and the motor sounds fresh with no GIO smells.

The only reservations I have are about some chips in the Gelcoat on the stern where he explained his wife let it bump into the ramp while he was pulling the trailer out, now the glass looks fine but the gelcoat is gone in a 2cm round patch and I wouldn't mind a second opinion.

Whadya reckon? He was asking $11k but I negotiated it down to $10k (AUD)

    Thanks

Gelcoat repair is not a priblem. Buy OEM colour kit and take your time and it'll almost be invisible. I had exactly the same type and size damage and mine turned out awesome. I'd never done it before.

Big step down from the FZR that is for sure. You ever think about checking out the new VXR/S. Less gas used and still have a lot of the thrill of the power.

Anytime I drive a newer 110-160HP ski I feel like I could never live with this.

Great repair job tornado34, I'll def look into that colour kit.

I've been quoted $16800 for a new 2014 and $17000 for a GTR215 but I'm trying to avoid the SC skis this time around mainly for economy and service costs, the FZS speed was great especially with a few mods but I hardly used that power and mostly cruised around at 60km/h to try and increase range.

I've had an 06' FX HO as well which had enough power and a great ride, but finding a clean example for this money around here is difficult and after riding one of the GTI's a few days ago I have to say I like the attitude of the hull.

I've also ridden a VXR in the past and didn't really enjoy it to be honest, all the vibration made it feel a bit cheap and they're a bit basic for my liking (no trim etc)

Test ride this ski either tomorrow or Saturday so will report back, thanks for the replies

New model is a completely new hull and has the new trim and Ride system. Very different from the old model.
