    2005 GTX 185 modification options ??

I know the general consensus seems to be leave it alone or sell it and buy a 215hp GTX or RXT and start from there.

I have been looking for an RXT without much luck, not sure if I will do anything yet to the 05 but I would like some opinions and options for bolt on mods to my 05 GTX. It runs right around 60mph give or take depending on temps etc I would like to see mid 60s without affecting reliability too much.

    This is what I'm thinking:
    - ET 127 wheel.
    - 4" intake.
    - Injectors, not sure what size using the 185 ecu and regulator.
    - Impeller pitched to match.

I did the 127 wheel and 42lb injectors on a previous RXP and thought it was a nice improvement not sure how well this will work with the lower spinning 185 engine. What about an ECU reflash or RXP / RXT ecu to raise the rev limiter ?

Or just keep looking for an RXT ?

    Thoughts and opinions ?

    Thanks

move up is my opinion, sounds like a lot of work to get close to a stock 215.

your not making as much boost not only because of the lower rpm but the supercharger is geared different and spins slower. The 185 and 215 both have the same wheel on them stock. they just have different gears and flywheels. it would probably be cheaper to change the gear and flywheel instead of buying a new wheel

Just have a hunt around on the forums for some used bits mate....i got a 215 fuel reg for $15, a 215 flywheel for $80, i got a 215 ecu but that cost me $500, im sure you could get them cheaper but i needed a 2006 specific one because that year has a different wiring loom. The 185 injectors and 215 injectors are the same (38lb). Find a 215 manifold with an intercooler and rebuild your charger to 215 specs to suit the flywheel and you would probably be close to mid 60's especially with a 4" air.....

Aren't the pistons cast in the 185 as well?

Thanks. I found this in one of his previous posts describing his 185 mods.

"hotbird--Ithought I sent you a PM on what I have done to my wifes 2006 185 HP ski--but maybe I did not. Quickly what i did. The following mods were done three years ago and the ski has over 100 hours since the mods were done with NO issues whatsoever. 215 flywheel and SC gear--stock drive shaft--stock 215 ECU--15/19 prop--85 MM venturi--Riva RXP rear air--
215 fuel regulator--stock cast pistons (engine has never been opened up) X supercharger--42 lb injectors---OPAS locked in up position--NO intercooler. On a cool day--71 plus MPH at 8140 or so--69 plus on hot south Texas days. In my opinion you will be wasting a lot of money, time and effort installing RRFPR--upgraded drive shaft --forged pistons--no need to monitor your AFR as I know from over 100 hrs use the above listed mods are safe. With this set up you will out run any STOCK ski. Good luck.

P.S. I purchased all the parts used moding the ski from the classified section on this forum for just over $1,000."

I'm getting the impression the biggest holdback on the 185 is the low RPM limiter and S/C gearing. If I was to get an 05 215hp ECU will the Candoo see this as a separate HIN or is the info stored in the MPEM ?

My 06 has a 215 ecu...it comes up as an error on buds but there are no warnings on the dash and it runs great.

Did you change the flywheel and S/C gear as well or just the ECU ? What gains did you see ?

    Thanks

I havent repitched my prop yet to suit the new ecu yet. Im running a 12/20. WOT is 7200 rpm at bang on 60 mph. Have you removed the flame arrestor in the intake manifold yet?, that helps a little. I also have a 4" rear air that has given it some good acceleration and sounds awesome but hasn't made a massive difference if any to top speed, probably because the prop is a little tall.

I have a 215 flywheel but havent fitted it yet. I have a spare x charger from my TX that i intend to fit. Thats why i got the 215 reg and when i get a bit more time and money...some 42 injectors...also got an external intercooler but have yet to fit that also as im still trying to get the exhaust to work around it.
