    Problem changing oil filter

Attempting to do my first oil change by myself. I couldn't figure out how to get the old filter off, so I was originally trying to adjust the screw at the bottom thinking you had to take that off to get the filter off. I realized all you had to do was turn the filter off, put the new one on, and now when screwing the filter cap back on there seems to be a gap and I can't turn the cap screw any further. I'm assuming this gap is abnormal. Any input would be appreciated.

the gap is there so you can confirm that the top o-ring is in place. You'll want to eyeball it when you first start the engine after the oil change to assure no leakage. The o-ring are expensive( relatively) and very very easy to ruin.

There is a torque spec on the Oil cap Lid. The Bolt is actually at the Oil pump base. DO NOT Over torque it. It causes oil pump problems.

To get it off easily I used a wide headed nail at the end of some vice grips to pull it up as you work your way around

The late model filter caps pull up and come free when you unscrew the cap retaining bolt on the top. No need to pry off.
