Check my thinking on FZS mods

A couple weeks ago I sold my 04 FX HO with a Riva stage 1 kit and bought a 2011 FZS that’s 100% stock and only has 16hrs on it. I’ve been doing a lot of reading and I’d love to do a bunch of mods, but I’m on a very limited budget for now so I need to be smart with what little I can do. The good news is I have been riding and modifying PWC for years so I can do everything myself. I’d love to get 70mph with the first 9 things, but I think it would be pushing it. I’m 250 lbs and my best stock speed is 66.7 mph GPS. My long range goal is only about 74-75, just fast enough that this old fat man can beat the rich kids on their daddy’s stock ski.

Here’s my budget plan, if I’m off base with something let me know.

    1)
R&D intake grate and the pump seal kit – already ordered.

    2) Make a homemade air intake (read several posts on it and doesn’t look too hard).

    3) Ribbon delete - R&D’s is $10 less than Riva’s are they the same? Do I need a new intake gasket?

    4) Trim the end of the stock exhaust hose that goes into the second black water box to free up the exhaust a little.

    5) Trim the rubber from the exhaust exit and around pump.

    6) Remove factory bilge tube that protrudes into pump stream.

    7) Remove spout and plug hole in the pump.

I would like to get some more air into the hull, but I haven’t settled on a plan yet.

    9) At this point I believe I will need a re-pitch of the stock prop - Agree?? What pitch and who?

Things that will have to wait until more funds are available.

    10) Jim's mod to the stock rideplate.

    11) Better tach.

    12) GPS mod to stock speedometer.

    13) Blow off valve – to ease wear and tear of stock clutch ??? Necessary??

    14) Pump tunnel reinforcement – Necessary??

What’s next and in what order to get to my goal of 75 mph?

Thanks for any help and advice you have.

Pump tunnel isn't needed and you'll need more mods for 75 on a SHO

Reflash would be the main mod..

Your main restrictions right now are your wheel and intercooler. Ribbon delete, Jim's cut plate, prop tuning, bigger intercooler, C3 wheel and R3 will put you above 75. No pump tunnel really needed right now.

The most important thing you can do for your safety right now though is an intake grate. Alone, the intake will slow you down (just a heads up).

Don't touch wheel.. 2014 jims modded ride plate, r3, ribbon delete, intake grate, intake, exhaust, intercooler or svho intercooler, additional cooling, and some hull ventilation. You should be at 75 easy reliable.

Tell me about the SVHO intercooler in an SHO ski. Good mod or would I eventually need or wish I'd bought an aftermarket one? Easy swap or a lot of fab work to get it to work?

It's an "ok" upgrade. I love the R&D 18005 intercooler in my FZR though.

if you are smart you wont need much for the speeds youre looking for.75 wasnt unheard for guys on the factory ecu years ago.heck i was one on them and on a FX none the less.meenwhile others were also nugging 80 with stock wheels.we dont all get the same results but then again we dont all test every other day either.those that did didnt give out all there tricks.open your ears hang around and read as much as you can brother.there is a great wealth of hidden information on this forum
