Thats the best one to get. You can probably buy the 2005 Glove box lid and it might fit the 2004 GTX so you'll have a solid holder. Get the Charts for it too. I've taken a bunch of 70mile+ trips and knowing the shortest route and where to go is HUGE! Saves on gas cause you don't go out of the way when your trying to go somewhere.

If you are just looking for something to tell you speed only...then ask around.

And yes the GPS Map 76, 76C, and 76cs are all good. The 76 is B&W, the 76C is Color, and the 76 CS is color and has some sensors. But I dont know what sensors. Maybe temp?

Make sure you keep it clean, and dry and not sitting in water for too long. I've had one flood out, Garmin replaced it because it must have been defective from mfgr.

I just read the differences... Yeah the 76Csx is great for navigation and of course its great for speed. Holds your top speed and all trip data. Make sure you get one with the electronic Compass. Mine isn't a S, so the only way I can find out a compass heading is to move, then I can get a heading. The 76CSx will probably act like any old compass.

I may upgrade this year to that!!!

We also use it on the boat as a back up, we keep the onboard boat GPS chart plotter zoomed out to see bouys, and zoom in on the Garmin 76 to see depth soundings from the charts.

NewEgg.com has it at a nice price.
    $369.99 + $5.64 ship.

I've spent about 5 grand at newegg.com. Fast shipping and reliable for tons of stuff. If your building a computer from scratch...this is the place to go. Best prices.

One of the main reasons I went with the 76CSx is because it floats. Many are waterproof to certain depths, but I'm not going to be diving to the bottom of my murky lake! Downside to the Garmin handhelds is you can only be viewing one type of map at a time, but if it's just for your boat, you'd be fine with the Lakes & Recreation set (has a decent amount of streets too).

Oh, I don't really use the compass feature because the instructions say you have to calibrate it everytime you change batteries, and they also say to use it in a horizontal position, and mine is in a vertical mount. Color screen is nice, and all the pages are configurable, so I just created one page that comes up by default that has the map, with my current speed and top speed. Other sensor is a barometer/altimeter.

camar0: look here for the GPS glove box, you`ll need to get it from the dealer or online OEM parts source...
