Anyone ever left theyre 4TEC un-winterized outside WAY bellow freezing?

Just spoke with one of my customers and he asked if I think his GTI would be fine since he didn't get a chance to winterize it. Its been around 10 degrees the last few nights and never broke 32. He said its sitting on his lift covered. He asked if he has a 50/50 shot of it being ok. I instantly told him he was crazy for not winterizing and that most likely he was going to see problems. Just curious if anyone has ever seen the affects of not winterizing?

He might be fine. The GTI only has the exhaust cooling to worry about. That system isn't as fragile as the intercoolers. There have been cases of the waterbox splitting, all depends how much water is in there.

    Sea Dood is right.

Plus sitting on his lift over the water chances are the heat from the water will keep it warmer also. So he probably dodge a bullet for now.

I would tell him to get it out of the water and winterize the ski.

well...without fogging the intake valves by removing the injectorrail...... I'd say freezing was the least of his concerns....

he'd be better off starting the engine once a week for a minute or two.

this season I had a series of 4 tecs come in with bad /sticky injectors

the fleet is aging..and it's not going to be pretty for folks

Does the customer blow out his ski after it is put onto the shore station-- clearing most of the water out of the water box?

I have absolutely no idea what he does after putting it on the lift, if I was a betting man I'd go with absolutely nothing.

The GTI does not have intercooler.
