    Clear Sludge around thermostat

    Almost like a clear jello.... What the hell is it??? About 10hrs on this svho stat that I drilled some holes in for hot weather riding. SHO stat is on right for comparison.

    Usually that's salt buildup, but based on your location I would say that's unlikely

    700 Miles away from salt water. I am stumped what it could be. Reminds me of clear silicone that didn't set up

    This is the thermostat on my 07 FX HO at around 100 hours. Mostly just salt residue, which I imagine would have blown out after riding in the lake.

    I'm almost certain you have Legionella Bacteria in your system and it is caused from your system not operating at the proper, higher temp. Legionella usually dies around 130*F to 150*F so boil the thermostat and see if it dies.

    Most of the water ran thru it the past month unfortunately has been city water off the hose. Would think chlorinated water would kill that....

    Nah. Chlorine dissipates very quickly, especially with any heat. Believe it or not, the bacteria you are looking at is a very common issue in water heaters. Also, city/county water is full of bacteria. Some water systems worse than others.
