    Region 8 1050 Cane Project.

I have been asked for help to get the 1050 Cane to the front of the pack. I am reaching out to the GH community for input. Current condition is stock 1050 in a stock Cane with extended rideplate and hull caps. My first plan is to install a set of 44 Mikunis and add 4" pump extension to pump. She ran well in the first race but lacked turning and speed buoy to buoy. Lets make this a community project for the 2015 season. Anyone donating time parts or knowledge will be sponsored on the boat for the 2015 season.

Is there a reason to not move to a larger displacement?

    Is there a budget?

The Hurricane is such a different hull from all the other Polaris models. Completely different shape on the bottom and very different weight distribution. The upper hood assembly alone is ridiculously heavy.

Changing the hood configuration to a fixed forward section and servicing the engine via the seat opening might allow for a much lighter overall weight, especially in the front area.

Engine placement in the hull. It seems possible to me that the engine weight/location might be far from correct. The few Hurricane engine conversions I have encountered seem to locate the new engine based mostly on where the stock engine mount threaded inserts are located. This may or may not be even close to optimum. Perhaps shifting the engine weight WAY back in the hull would help.

Since the Hurricane hull has such a large hood opening, the lower hull material may be excessively thick. At least it seemed that way when I was cutting up the one I had. Lots of weight.

How about a Sharps 1350 on a single pipe?

Would a set of pro 1200 pipes fit in there? Those arent too hard to find.
