Introducing The Watercraft Journal's PWC Club Event Calendar

    Hello all PWC/Jet Ski Clubs!

Please allow me to introduce The Watercraft Journal, the Internet's ONLY daily personal watercraft enthusiast magazine. Publishing every day, Monday through Friday, The Watercraft Journal is the Internet's only source for free daily news, product reviews, next-day event coverage, interviews and how-to technical articles.

In the coming months, The Watercraft Journal is launching the most comprehensive online event calendar available. Designed to be incredibly easy to navigate yet thorough in its execution, watercraft enthusiasts from across the globe will be able to know what is happening and where to go to join the fun!

What we need from you is a comprehensive list of every event and local ride your PWC club is hosting for 2015! Make sure to include your club's name, the name of your ride/event, location, time and meeting place for every submission. Other details such as distance, suggested equipment, etc. are also welcome as well.

Will there be an online method of entering event info and then making changes as dates, locations and other details change?

If it all has to go through email and a point person, I worry that it will become cumbersome to maintain.

Unfortunately, no. It will be all through email in order to maintain order and our same level of professionalism.

If we can publish multiple articles every single day, Monday-through-Friday all year long, we can handle this too.

Hmmm. This is going to be a web site published kinda thing?

To me this sounds more like a calendar database sort of thing, not a web site thing. You will have a stream of event info incoming, plus frequent info changes, updates, deletions, revisions, etc. As a web page or web site, it will never be fully 'current' as there will be a delay between when people send you changes and when those changes appear on the web site, due to the human editor factor.

Then people see your changes, realize they forgot some other changes, and email those to you. They wait until those changes appear, then think of something else to add. Days or weeks later, they decide to cancel the event or move it to another weekend or month. More work for you. I could imagine Fridays and Saturdays having a 'rush hour' of last minute event info changes to multiple events for that weekend.

As an online 'shared calendar' people could add their events themselves, make changes, and generally manage their own info related to the event. Shared calendars can also be subscribed to with mobile apps that understand calendars, so the 'watercraft event calendar' would just be another calendar that they could view as they wish, and select which event types they want to see (their region, their brand, etc).

Perhaps people can directly submit calendar database events info and edits directly but you can defer updating the actual shared calendar until the changes are 'approved' by an editor. That brings the editor delay back into the loop, of course.

Depends on the scale you are expecting this to achieve. Dozens of events per season or many hundreds of events...

If this really does become a locus of scheduled event info with many, many events each weekend, you can selectively highlight certain events for publishing exposure while leaving the multitude of not-promoted events available in the calendar service for those who are interested or local to them. That would allow the shared calendar itself to have immediate updates from the users, while the publishing aspect goes through you.
