96 1100 stator cone does not seem right. help

I got all the bearings back in my stator and I filled the rear plastic cone with grease as suggested and in the manual, but cone goes on with lots of pressure and the bolts tighten but the ears are bending and the whole cone is slightly off the stator. I went as far as removing all the grease do to the pressure. But as soon as the o- ring seals the pressure begins to build. Am I supposed to drill a relief screw in the tip and tap a screw in or what. The service manual shows a cone such as that.

Do you have the rear bearing pushed all the way in??

I think. I tapped it in with a bearing pusher and it went and went then hit and the hole shaft started bouncing. I'll take calipers to it and make sure. Also how tight should the shaft spin with all new bearings, grease and seals. It spins but is very tight. No grinding or audible rubbing noise either. It is also 50 degrees out. Cold grease.

I did use a service manual and forums as reference but that makes me no expert.

Does the cone push in without the "O" ring? Did you replace "O" ring?

It was partially the bearing was not in all the way, I cleaned some grease and the cone went in without the o ring and with a little pressure with the o ring. I find the shaft to spin quite tight but it is with fresh now cold grease and new seals and bearings
