The speed @ which they hit the dock had to been excessive ... no cool in a canal. Also Not sure why they were unable to steer away ?. I am glad to hear that they will recover. Hope to glean some info on their skill level & if it was a throttle malfunction. Where I live you have to be at no-wake speed within 100' approaching a dock.

That entire area is marked slow/minimum wake.

Either the throttle locked open as they stated or he grabbed it by mistake.

I could see where an inexperienced rider could grab the throttle and panic. I recently read somewhere that PWC's can accelerate faster than a Ferrari.

hmmm, yeah got to be a little suspicious going thru that long "no wake" area and saying "the throttle locked open"..

Probably wanted to show off to the girl how fast he can go , like vid that went viral recently of that rental ski flying into the air barely missing the girl who got off another just before.

Just not buying it's mechanical error..

Hondas have a maintenance port you spray every ride it lubercates the throttle plate and hinge, pre ride inspection is everything for safety, a bad throttle cable will also cause this.

what I can't wrap my head around is how they were within 100 yards of a dock above trolling speed, and why they didn't pull lanyard and kill machine

Yes this is the correct way to handle it, if the throttle was stuck. After the lanyard is yanked out the Ski should slow down to a crawl pretty quick (assuming it was not going that fast in the first place).

If it looks like you are still going to make contact with some object at some appreciable amount of speed . . . turn around and grab your girlfriend and abandon ship! JB
