Feather and Fin
Yesterday while on my Jet Ski fishing off of Virginia Beach I saw hundreds of Northern Gannets slamming in the water. This is one of my favorites sights to see. Unfortunately sometimes in all of the frenzy the Gannets hit each other as they dive. I have seen over the years several with broken wings. I came upon these two right after they collided, one of them had impaled the other in the neck with its bill. I watched for several minutes, they had become twisted and tangled and could not get separated. I put my camera away and decided to see what I could do. I pulled next to them and picked one up and literally had to pry it's bill out of the other. Surprisingly they both flew off! This was the first time I had ever held a Gannet, they are very large but light. The feathers were soft and amazingly dry to the touch. Later in the day I was rewarded with several Whale sightings! Just thought I would share.
This Humpback gave me "The Flipper"
Saw United States and Canadian Coast Guard boat while I was out.
