Sanded my ride plate to clean it up from lake grunge have a question

the Aluminum ride plate was all covered in grunge from sitting in lake water. Also had some white crusty stuff
on the top of the plate and intake fins. Sanded it all off, but now wonder if the aluminum was coated with any
type of protective coating? Or is there a recommendation of something to paint or coat it with?

I'd thoroughly clean it by blasting, then get it anodized.
