    spark problems

    Hi there,

I have just installed the upgrade ignition kit in my 96 Polaris SL 700, and I have a strange problem. I do not get any spark when I push the start button and it is cranking, but just as I release the start button I get a spark, from my limited knowledge it appears to me that something is wired back to front, however I have checked the wiring several times and it seems to be correct... any ideas ?

Your battery is probably too weak. Thats the classic symptom of a battery thats not strong enough. These ignitions require a battery that can deliver at least 10.6 volts while cranking to fire the plugs. try charging the battery and if that doesn't do it, you may need to replace it.

If you connect a volt meter to the battery terminals watch the voltage while you are cranking the engine.

Ok... so now i have a good battery, I managed to start it once, but I am still only getting spark just as I let go of the start button, so it appears it is relying on that one spark as i let go of the start button to start. Once again, tested with a good battery but only sparks when just as I let go of the start button... strange ?

Take two..... just incase I went and pulled the battery out of my motorbike which I know is new... and what do you know... it goes.

Thanks for the tip, Off to get some new batteries for both of the Machines.

    Cheers.

Awesome. Go for a Deka AGM battery. They are the strongest most reliable batteries out there for skis.
