    oil pump shaft snapped

Just diagnosing an overheating rxp (07/08 215) and found the pump wasn't circulating coolant, so far i have pulled the thermostat housing and found the impeller spins freely so i pulled on it and it came out with a section of shaft still attached
The engine still runs fine and the shaft shows no signs of heat or picking up so at a loos as to why it would break. The engine shows some signs of having been apart before so not sure who or what has gone on in there before now.
    Anyone had this before?

took pto off and has wsm on the oil pump cover and a non genuine pto gasket so looks like aftermarket parts used to fix a washer failure.
