    Depth sensor!

Just scored a brand new OEM Genesis depth sensor kit for $60 and a brand new Genesis MFI for $125.

    New round of upgrades begins!

Anyone know if you can tie the forward / reverse switch from the 02+ Virage into the gauges to show forward / reverse on the little indicator, I figure it will probably only show full F or R and nothing in between. If not then oh well, i'd rather have the depth sensor and a useless indicator, then nothing.

The Genesis MFI has a different speedo calibration than the Virage version. Your speedo will read a lot faster than you are going. That was you that got the depth finder?

Yeah, I couldn't pass up the price.
Not concerned about the speedo so much, they are always wrong anyway.

I recall looking at the way the PERC electric reverse indicator signaling works. If memory serves, the manual reverse signal on your (and my) 2002 Virage TXi will not directly feed the MFI reverse indicator dial.

The MFI reverse needle can move in increments while the manual reverse switch is all or nothing.

When I was last testing a Genesis MFI it properly responds to the basic Reverse signal on the same pin the Virage uses, so the display will show the Reverse message and flash the red warning lamp when Virage lever is in the reverse position. Just the MFI reverse dial indicator will stay unmoved.

I might try and see if I can cobble together a hybrid gauge of Genesis / Virage then. Anyone take one apart?

Why would you need to take it apart? The Genesis MFI is a superset of the Virage gauge. Only the speedometer accuracy will be off.

Elsewhere I have posted all the variations of the MFI display. Without checking (me being lazy tonight), I think there might have been a Virage MFI version that had the depth sensor connector on the back.

Also posted elsewhere are photos of the MFI innards.

I vaguely recall there was an internal adjustment for speedometer accuracy, but I doubt that you could override the calibration curve to make a Gensis display show accurate speeds across the speed range. It has to do with how the water pressure from the pitot differs with the different hull bottom profiles and intake grates.

I have the all dancing MFI from a Genesis on my 2002 Virage TXi. I like having the compass right on the screen. The slightly inaccurate speedometer doesn't bother me much.

    Thanks for the link

Since that was posted I now suspect one other MFI model also has the Deutsch connector for the depth sensor, not just the all singing Genesis display.
