2002 Virage TXi has 5-10psi compression PTO cyl?!

Decided to do a compression test today before I called the ski 'finished' for the winter and I get 120psi on MAG, 112 center, and 5-10 on PTO. Engine is a fairly new build maybe an hour on it tops, but was done a few years back. (Many other issues caused the ski to sit)

Just removed the PTO head and found some metal deposit stuck to the cylinder wall in the intake side. Most likely from the ring(s), and a little scoring elsewhere.

Needless to say I need some help here. What is my best course of action without breaking the bank?

Most of the machine shops here suck. In fact this might be the cylinder I had sleeved, but it's been so long since I built the motor I cannot recall. Any mail order guys still around? I seem to recall watcon or some place in NY doing work on the Polaris motors. Or if someone has a cylinder/piston that I can buy and hone with new rings, that would be fine also. I just don't trust ebay, and the ones on there right now look like they have scoring to start with.

    Help!

Contact John Zigler. He can get you set up with machining.

Also would it be unwise to run an oversize piston on a DI engine?

Yes you can run an oversize piston. Im not sure on cost. I think last time I had a cylinder bored it was 60 bucks. You would have to ask John.

Pulled off the other 2 heads. I can now clearly see that the inner oring had failed. It had a 1-2mm gap. Don't know if it shifted during assembly and got pinched or what. Also don't know if it contributed to the damage.

The middle cylinder best I can tell is the one with the new sleeve. It is also the one with the lower PSI of the two that were "good". Probably from me having to do my own chamfering work on the ports.

Think I might order an 84.5mm WSM Platinum top end kit (unless someone recommends otherwise) @ $275. Then just get the cylinders over bored & honed.
I don't want to do this again. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to pull the exhaust

I sent an email off to John @ Watcon, but what happened to Jay @ Sharps? Are they still in business?

They are no longer in business so-to-speak. Ronnie Sharp has long since retired. He takes on some work here and there with the help of his son Richie.

Jay, although still bummin' around with the Sharps, is doing his thing elsewhere.

I have had my machine work for a few motors done with John.

Just spoke to John today. I'll be sending my jugs off to him in a few days.

If anyone is interested, you can get the entire WSM Platinum top end rebuild kit from Amazon for $234 shipped. In any size, standard or overbore.
