I'd let someone else pick up that project. You have to replace the crankshaft if the connecting rod is bad. I would bet that you will have to put as much as its worth into it to get either one running. The 95 is probably worth less than $1,000 running. $1,000 goes quick when you are buying ski parts. You might be able to do it cheep and put 2 together and make one that runs, and only have to buy carb kits, gaskets, fuel lines, a few rubber parts, and a battery. But then you will have a motor built with parts that have an undetermined amount of use on them.

Those boats might be worth it so someone that has a lot of 580 parts lying around, and knows them well enough to not have to put a lot of time into them.

If you are going to take on a project like this, I would suggest looking for something with a 720 or a 785 in it. A 951 boat would be my choice if I were looking for a 2 stroke project. Also, beware of anyone selling a ski that says it only needs a head gasket, or a carb rebuild because it more than likely needs a motor.

    Hope this helps

Crank rebuilds are not a DIY project. You need someone with the tools , knowledge, and experience to build it right. The cranks are pressed together, and getting them straight and true requires some special equipment and skills

If you are looking to get into a ski, and are sold on getting a Sea Doo, I wouldnt get anything smaller than the 787 engine. Anything less and you will be looking for another ski after riding it for a bit.

True, I could barter him down then just buy a new bottom end? Or even a new engine, Give it a little shine it would look pretty nice, plus there's two of them so even if i just shine them up and sell them. I Would plan on keeping the 95.
