this a 15 FX SVHO w/a whopping 8 hrs, its probably just paronoia, but are these casting marks normal? 1st Yamaha i've owned in years

Those are completely normal, they are not cracks, they form when the aluminum cools down after the casting.

Correct mine has them too with same amount of hrs

Last three have all had it from new, not a problem...

The valve cover is an unstressed component so these wouldn't be stress cracks. This component is made by die casting and the lines you see are from surface blemishes in the die itself. After many injection cycles the surface of the die develops miniscule surface cracks and the molten aluminum fills the cracks. This is why you see what looks like flash on the surface of the head cover.
