is the early yellow 587 engine same as white 587 engine?

I gave my old 1992 seadoo gts white engine my neighbor for free. She need mpem replace but my they cant afford the 300 dollar worth parts but he found 1991 seadoo sp no title complete good yellow engine all need is carb clean out so he asked me if yellow and white engine cdi same? I am not sure I never own early yellow engine. I know most of yall probably saying its waste of time get newer one... but he is young and cant afford a nice newer jet ski the gts I gave to him is good start for him to enjoy on the lake.

    Lots of differences between them.

They call them both "580's" and "587's". The early yellow engine has a 5 wire system and the white engine is a 4 wire. If he keeps the flywheel, stator, and grey box together from either one then it will run either one. Make sure to align the mark on the case with the mark on the stator if swapping.
