GP1200R - Coming out of sabatical - hints and tips?
I got my hands on a cheap 1200R , a runner but god she was rough, so have been stripping and cleaning.
The previous owner, whom I know personally said the ski had 65 hours on the clock before the multi function display went pop and he subsequently put it in the garage to "fix later" , and 2 years later I took it off him. All that time it sat with fuel in it !
Currently trying to source an alternative.
The Carbs are in a pitiful state
And the insides have enough varnish to paint a door and heavily crystallized by products of petrol being left to rot
Whilst they are out I am fitting a proper primer unit, and new seals etc .
The engine is OK , no signs of seizure or oil starvation , compression is good across all 3 cylinders , prop & bearings all good.
Been reading through various posts, noting recommendations about ensuring the fuel is in the line, checking routing of the pipes, which I will do doing anyway as I am replacing the current pipes with new ones. I just cannot trust the old pipes are not full of crap too.
Any other hints and tips I should so , especially for her maiden voyage?

If you are still using the oil injection system Replace ALL oil line clamps with new quality wire ties ( I Likt the T&B brand best) Lots of good gpr motors have been seized due to oil lines fall off the fittings. Also I assume you replaced all the carb rubber parts with new Oem Mikuni carb kits. Good luck. Tommy Jordan

Berrymans B12 Chem-tool is the best carb/intake/etc cleaner I've used by far. It may remove paint too so be careful if you use it. I've bought it by the gallon before and dunked whole pistons in it and sat overnight and then rinse off the years of carbon buildup, etc. It's awesome.
