Leaking PTO cover gasket on my 4 Stroke 215.

Hi, I just bought an 07 Wake with a leaking PTO gasket. It has 175 hours and according to the previous owner it only leaks oil above 40mph. I've tried to find a DIY on this but have had no luck. Anyone know the procedure for doing this? Does the motor need to be pulled? What other parts should I replace when I'm in there?

    Thanks.

First you need to make sure where its actually leaking. If it is the gasket, you can pull the PTO and replace it without pulling the engine but it a lot easier if you pull the engine completely out.

Are you sure it is not leaking at the PTO bearing?

I'm not exactly sure yet. I'm going to start tearing it down tomorrow. He just said it was the cover.

bet you it's the roller bearing. There's not enough pressure in the case to blow out the PTO seal.

So I still have to pull the motor for that or can I do it with the motor in the ski?

first verify it's coming from the PTO shaft seal. If it is, which is where my bet lies, then pull off the pump, remove the drive shaft and replace it. Sounds easy huh? It never is on a ski that doesn't see normal work.

I opened everything up and there doesn't seem to be that much oil anywhere. The rubber bellows has a light coating on it and thats about it. The whole PTO cover seemed to be dry.

Fold up that rubber boot near the top of your picture, and take a look at the bearing bellow underneath it. You have oil, and anti-freeze in the hull. You could have a bad rear oil pump - coolant seal. Both have weep holes, and will drip into the hull. Not a common thing to leak though.... unless rebuilt, and not installed properly. Check the bearing bellow first. Do you know if the engines ever been out..... maybe from a ceramic washer failure?
