    Rule of thumb on grates and handling components. You dont want the water to catch any sharp edges. So in this case, you want the grate edges higher or same as the shoe. If the shoe was higher then water would catch as it goes across the grate into the tunnel.

    Thanks for the reply.That's what I thought.I figured a smooth flow of water would be best.
