2002 GP1200R exhaust question - What is in this?

Hi, newb to GP1200s, ride standups with lots of building / hacking experience.

Just bought a pretty nice gp with a blown middle cylinder, and was planning on getting a D plate to replace the cat. Got it off and saw this: What is this plate?

Could it also be the cause of the middle kaboom?

I havent gotten far enough in to see if it was a cracked/exploded oil line or carb clogged.

Also, what is the best way to make this motor bulletproof as possible? Just keep it stock and add waveeater pv clips?

DEFINATLEY get the wave eater kit and pre mix is also another good mod for reliability. As far as that picture goes that looks like the cat I think....Mabel some else can confirm on that. But yes a d plate is also another good mod for reliability.
