need stator / magneto for 1999 slx 1050 (update kit would be ideal)

    Hi all,

So I foolishly hooked the black wire of my stator up to the wrong connection in the electrical box and burned up my wire harness (while I was installing a new starter solenoid) and now the ski dies randomly at any speed out on the water. Does anybody have an update kit to sell from a ski you might be parting out etc? The price of the update kit on ebay is extremely pricey (especially in Canadian dollars!) so I am looking for alternatives.

    thanks!

    Cal

Are you sure you need the whole kit and not just a stator?

Which generation stator did you damage? Original or update kit?

From looking around, I can't seem to find any "stators only" for sale, only the SBT kit which is pretty pricey

I damaged the original generation model, that's why I am considering doing the kit update if I will be taking everything apart (I did the update on my 1996 sl 900 a few years ago so I am familiar with the process). I suppose I could look for a used original gen stator just to get the ski back on the water, but then I would know in the back of my mind that it could also fail...

Judging by my description of how I damaged the stator, do you think it would have been the only component that was damaged? Would the damage affect the CDI in any way?

    thanks for the responses

What was the stator black wire actually connected to that caused the problem?

Did you attempt to repair the burned wire damage? How?

on the 99 you can use a 1200 stator which are easy to find and then you just need a 447 cdi which are always on ebay also

    True.

The 1999 1050 engine stator housing is the same as the 2000 onwards red engine stator housing, so the stators for any year 1200 engine will fit.

The difference is in the rubber grommet on the stator cable, which fits the stator housing differently between old and new styles.

I have a good condition working Gen 1 stator here. Came out of a running 1997 SL900 engine which had a crank bearing failure. Old style stator housing cable grommet, but I also have the housing available. PM me if interested.

I had no difference in the grommet and I just did an update on one two months ago

they use the same plug and gromett as a 1200

if you need pics i can show you i have the old stator still laying around

thanks for the info K447 and 785 Lugs, I will keep an eye out for the 1200 stators / update kits as well.

K447 - I hooked the black wire up to one of the leads to the starter solenoid by mistake, so the first time I turned the engine over I got some smoking from the engine compartment which of course turned out to be the insulation on the black wire burning off... It was burnt leading right into the stator cover at the front of the engine, so I'm thinking its toast.

Any other leads on these parts would be much appreciated!

    thanks,
