question about my 05 gtx ltd.

hello everyone, sorry it is soo long....

first time i am here...... i guess you would say i am a virgin!!!

i would like to say thank you and ask for your patience in advance. i am sure that i will ask some dumb newbie questions so please bear with me......

i can't believe theres a forum like this its awesome! i am an avid vw guy, mostly aircooleds. there are tons of forums that i belong to for that. i really take a liking to helping out the newbies and directing them down the right path(s).

anyway, i had a couple of old yamaha waverunners upgraded to an 01 xpl had that for a few yrs. i did all the maint. on it myself -winterizing/pump oil change, etc - VERY EASY STUFF!!! no pump changes or engine overhalls.

i got engaged this summer and my fiance and i decided to trade in the 01 xpl for a 05 gtx ltd. the xpl just did not ride right in the chop with two people on it! other than that i still miss my xpl!!!

we got the gtx ltd this yr. it is sweet raw power on the water. it went back at the dealer to do the 10hr. checkup maint. but after that it will be only me doing things to this beast. i picked up the service (paper bound) manuals from ppg. i winterized it and put it away for the winter. ARGH!!! CANT WAIT FOR SPRING AGAIN!!!

i'm off the soapbox. my question is this. last time i rode it on lake erie it was sucking up crap in the water. alge, sand, pebbles, i dont know something!! it ran like shit. the rpms were fine, but acceleration/thrust was not the same!!! i turned it off hoping that if something was covering the intake grate it would fall off - nothing changed. i put it in neutral and hit the gas a little it did nothing, tried reverse, nothing changed, put it in drive hit the gas a little - i heard a pop and saw some crap shoot out of the pump/nozzle area.

a couple minutes later it did the same thing, but i could not get it to run right. i took it outta the water to check the intake grate. there was some alge crap hanging from it. i yanked it off and got all out that i could see. i checked the pump/nozzle area for more crap but nothing was there.

it was the end of the season so i just left in the garage and winterized it. the xp i would change the pump oil annually. this machine says to check the grease fittings?

do i have to change pump oil annually? i just bought the ski in aug. and have maybe 25hrs on it!!! is it like the xp where i take off the tip of the impeller?

also i will check the tolerance between the wear ring and the impeller with my big feeler gauges....... is there anything i need to look for when i take off the venturi/nozzle housing?? besides scratches on the prop and/or wear ring? if there are scrathes is it gonna make big of a difference if the tolerances are ok?

last one..... with the engine revving and not having the same acceleration/thrust as before do i need to worry about burning out the clutch setup on this thing?

    thanks again, rob

and seriously if you have an aircooled vw question...... lemme know!!!

    sorry...... one other thing.....

does anyone sell something like draino to help up clog the pump/intake grate area etc?

i wonder if draino would screw up anything on the jetski? we use it ok on plumbing stuff........ just make sure that you run a lot of water thru it!!

If you are running normal RPM. your problem is not the clutch. You probably messed up the wear ring. Since it is winterized, just pull the pump off and check it out. It's an easy fix.

At 25 hours, you should be fine on the grease in the pump cone. But if you take the pump off, it is easy enough to check. I replaced the grease with gear lube because I think gear lube keeps the bearings lubricated better.

Leave the Draino for your toilet bowl. If you can not unclog weeds etc. from your pump by reving the engine (sometimes the back pressure from putting the reverse grate down helps unclog it) you will have to shut the motor off and clean it out by hand.

I miss my type 2 (squareback) sold it when the engine grenaded a second time. That was when I was in school and didn't know hardly anything about cars. Should have kept it and put in a new engine. Some day I will have another.

yupe megasquirt with edis...... www.msefi.com edis comes out of a 91 ford 1.9 engine like the escort..... it's covered in the m/s website

the engine now without efi is roughly about 150hp (i have not had it on the dyno!!!) other setups exactly like mine have pulled out 185hp...... so 150hp is modest!!!! i am smoking most v8's already!!!

and then with about 7/8psi outta the turbo it will easily double the hp! so about 300hp modestly!!!

maybe more...... depending on how the trans will hold up!!!

the vw trans are like wishbones out of a turkey!!!!

there is only so much you can do with that kind of power when the trans was only designed to handle 60hp!

even with the upgrades with bus trans' parts it is still the same thing...... wishbones!!!! you wish you dont break a bone!!!

you almost have to step up to a 911 trans - 5 spd. berg setup like 5 grand when you are done!!!

when the efi and turbo are done it should be around 11-12 car in the 1/4 mile
