Lanyard Key went bad today.
Went riding for about 17 miles to a nice beach for a swim. Jumped back on and nothing, no crank, no start, but display showed an error P1656. Called Riva from my Cell and they said the key (Lanyard) was bad. Got a friend to pick up my never used "learners key" and got home doing 45MPH the whole way (Long ride) What do I need to bring in to program like 20 new lanyards? My ski is in the Caribbean. Someone mentioned that the MPEM can be pluged into another ski in the US to program new keys?
Already got the MPEM out.
Luckly I travel to FL tommorow so I need to know.

Anyone have a lanyard go bad? Any BUDS programmers out there?

I've known of a couple to go bad, doesn't happen a lot though. The lanyard has a code stored in it and the MPEM is programed to recognize the code in up to 8 lanyards so there is actually no programing done to the lanyard. Just an FYI, dealers are supposed to verify ownership of the ski in some way before they make lanyards for it. And yes, if a dealer was willing to remove the MPEM from a ski and install yours, they could program it for some lanyards for you.

Is there any sea-doo dealers in the Caribbean? If so, trailer your ski and and have them program a new key.

For those interested in the outcome of this problem. I went to FL with my MPEM and 5 new lanyards. t turned out that I needed the ECU also, luckly a freind was able to fly up to FL (5 Hour flight) and got all the lanyards programmed. Each lanyard cost $46 and $15 each to program. I would advise everyone on this forum to have at least one extra key programmed. I now ride with a spare key hiddden in the ski at all times. The dealer also stated that the keys do go bad.

I always make a spare with me at all times, plus the learning key,key might go bad or a simple thing like you can't remember where you left it last on the beach.
