Cheep and compact windows 8.1 PC solution

    Hi all,

just want to share with you my find.

To work with the CMD and candoo on my jetski I was using my $1700 macbook air. The pricetag on the laptop was making me a bit stressed when I had to work on/around water /ai am using parallesls to run windows on mac/

Two days ago I found something interesting at good price - HP Stream 7, a FULL Windows 8.1 tablet in a compact form. They are normally $99, but are on sale for $79. Windows 8 by itself is $119! Included is a full year of Microsoft Office (again, full version) which normally is $69.

I decided to give it a go and ordered one yesterday and today I got it delivered with free UPS ground delivery.

    This is the link:
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/HP-Stream-7-Signature-Edition-Tablet/productID.308781500

I installed the CMD software and it works perfect!

Please note that micro usb to usb adapter is needed but I found one for $5.99 at my local Frys store:
    http://www.frys.com/product/7582606

And this is not all - you can take another 5% off if you follow the instructions here:

    http://www.techtimes.com/articles/36761/20150302/75-hp-tablet-sale-deal-32gb-windows-8-1-25-gift-card-one-year-office-365-and-free-shipping.htm

If you want to be more like laptop you can order case with keyboard like this: http://www.amazon.com/Infiland-Strea...tooth-Keyboard

which will include the usb adapter for free

This is not the best tablet in the wirld but will make me feel much better hanging with it on or around the water.

Disclaimer: I am not associated with Microsoft and/or HP

How is the HP Stream 7 in terms of responsiveness? It is sluggish?

It is amazing how much the cost of basic computing hardware has declined over time.

picked up one for the wife when they were on sale for $79 AND a $25 gift card.

Solid hardware, great price, performance above what I expected.

It keeps her iphone ready to go on a business trip. Candy crush can really flatten a battery.

it's a real deal considering the price of windows 8.1.

I recently installed android on my older web os hp tablet( the one they fire saled when web os was a flop for a $500 tablet. Grabbed it for 150 and it's got a giant size screen and it opened up a new world of apps and functionality. Best part is I was able to retain web os as a dual boot. Run Netflix like a charm and has beats audio.

The only downside on the stream so far is that the built in speaker sucks rotten eggs.

Still, I rate it as a solid buy

There are companies that will treat your computer so it can be used under water. I have an iPod that was done and it has been used by my brother in the pool while swimming laps for over a year now and still works. I used liquipel. Then you could use your computer without concern. There are other companies but they insure your device against water dammage as well.

What kind of iPod? Touch screen or something more like the iPod Nano?

This is exactly what i have been looking to do. I'm in for 1, screw it. For $79 bucks, if it stinks I will give it to my kids!

I need something to do my CMD tuning on that i can tote easily on the ski.
