    Oil Pump question

Oil pump rotors have a square stamped 'witness mark' on them, but they appear to be identical on both sides with no bias visible. Does it matter if the witness mark is face up or face down in the rear oil pump?

I've seen them installed both ways in factory engines, and BRP says nothing that I've seen about orientation in their manuals. I install them with the indentations facing the pto cover in attempts to contain more oil on that side..... considering a pto cover costs way more than the rotor cover.

I just took 2 stock covers apart and found both wheels with the mark down.

I just took apart both front and PTO pumps and both were faced down.
