    Skaneateles Lake - NY

Anybody ride or familiar with this lake? Always wanted to go back to the Finger Lakes after going to Seneca a few years ago. Did Lake George & Sacandaga last summer and want to try another NYS lake.

Heard the water is crystal clear and Syracuse uses it for their water supply.

Let me know if you decide to do Lake George this year. I'll give you the 5 cent tour.

I haven't taken my ski to Skaneateles, but I used to go there years ago when my uncle lived there. It is a beautiful lake and the water was really clear.

I am WAY late posting to this thread... Just saw it. Sorry guys. Skaneatles Lake is about 40 miles to the south of me. Only 16 miles long and about a mile wide. Deep and pristine water. Conditions can be tricky. If there is prevailing west winds, you'll be ok. If the winds are stiff and out of the north or south, it gets really rough. The lake is surrounded by hills and acts as a wind tunnel... The town is beautiful and there is plenty to do. Nice public pier to tie off at.

The State boat launch is smallish, very steep and sometimes parking can get tight.

I'm on Oneida Lake. If up this way, drop me a line....

I will be doing a lot of riding on Seneca lake this year. Both ends of the lake have nice sandy bottoms so you can get in and walk in the water. Lots of boats raft up here during the summer. The beach near Watkins Glen has a stripper pole platform in the water. Hoping I can get there to watch the races too.

Thanks for the info, very helpful. Good to know about the wind. Any place you would recommend to stay over in town?

Tough call on staying in town. Skaneatles is a ritzy, touristy, type town. Lot's of bed / breakfast and smaller INN's. Most are very expensive. There are some smaller mom & pop type motels just north, outside of town on RT20(probably your best bet). However, most go to one of the larger "chain" hotels in Auburn, NY(10-15min away). One thing I can recommend, is make sure you go to Doug's Fish Fry for lunch or dinner!
