RIVA thermostat disassembly
I have a second hand thermostat with the RIVA upgrade. It stopped working last summer so I'm trying to get it apart to replace the thermo inside. I don't have the "cutting tool" since I bought it pre-assembled. Is there a trick to getting it apart? I have the collar off and have tried a couple different ways with boiling water to get the nozzle out but have had no luck. I can have a tool made at my machine shop if it's needed, just wondering if anyone has pulled it off at home with no special tools.

While removing the stock plastic 3/4" nipple is done with a tool (cuts tabs off), you can't use such a tool with the Riva kit because the 3/4" riva nipple is billet. You will need to be VERY carefull and use several small flat blade screwdrivers...but the chance of you cracking the thin plastic is very high. I would buy a used one on ebay and put your riva kit on that.

Hmmm ok thanks for the heads up. I'll try it again tomorrow using the screwdrivers. I found some housings for $40 so if it breaks I'll just pick one up.
